home should be an inspiring space

Inspiring vintage inspired home living

Having been born under the sign of Cancer, it means I am a homebody and I don’t like to leave my cozy little shelter that often. This is very true to me as I much prefer to be at home than to be out and about and my idea of a party is a couple of friends over for good conversation and coffee.

With that being said, my little home loving self has not really felt like I’ve had a place to call home for a couple of years now. Sure, there is my apartment. But, see that’s not home. Home is where one should feel at peace, inspired, invigorated… all those warm fuzzy wuzzy feelings! Home to me is looking outside a window and seeing lots of trees or flowers. Home is a lovingly cared for old house. A bright sunny kitchen. Wood floors. And a claw foot tub.

You know, I’ve not had a tub in two years! Woe is me! When I am traveling for a vintage buying trip I always look forward to taking a bath at the hotel. And I don’t even like publicly shared bathing spaces (auugh, same reason I strongly dislike water parks, augggh) but gosh dangit, I like my baths and if it has to be in a hotel bathroom, so be it!

So, for fun, I want to share the latest homes on Pinterest that have really been tugging at my heartstrings. As silly as it sounds, I long for that little space I can call home and these images just have me pining for it!

How cozy and warm does this little desk nook look? It looks like a place Mr. Darcy would pen down his feelings of growing adoration for Elizabeth Bennett. I’ll have a little corner like this with old vintage books, a vase of “I just picked these this morning” flowers, and that cage pendant lamp. And this paint color, but more green/blue. I do love a good dark wall.  // source

You’ve got to be kidding me with this kitchen! I mean look at this LIGHT! I am soothing my jealous heart with the thought that this place must feel like an oven in the summer time. But, I doubt it. I bet it’s perfectly breezy in there all the time. // source

Ever since I was a wee little girl…ok, actually, to be more accurate, ever since I knew claw foot bathtubs existed (I grew up in the Philippine islands, remember, I had never even seen a tub until I moved to America!) I wanted one. Hasn’t happened yet, but by golly, by my 31st year of life I will have one! A girl can dream! // source

Vintage Outdoor Living

You totally want to come over and hang with me in my little dream space, right? Come on, you know you do! You want to come over and drink Earl Grey tea with lavender honey and eat little poppyseed scones with berry medley jam. I’ll provide the tea, scones, and jam. You provide the witty and engaging conversation. Also, it would be nice if you helped me fold my just dried in the sun vintage and antique linens.

of hats & lavender

Quite some time ago I came across this photo of a very large straw hat that was traditionally worn by women who harvested lavender in Provence (here is the pic). And my heart just soared! You must know by now dear friend how much I adore hats and this was like the MOTHER of all straw hats. So then began my many months of searching for a large floppy straw hat with a black ribbon.

My search finally came to a fruitful end when my friends at Urban Americana (an antique mall in Long Beach, CA…please do visit them, they are so wonderful!) had just the sort of hat I was searching for! And how very fitting that next weekend (June 28th) I will be popping up at Shop Summer Camp in Ojai, California during the annual Ojai Lavender Festival! Isn’t this so serendipitous? Gosh, I love when things like this just work out without meaning to!

So here I am, wearing my very large straw hat for a promo picture for the vintage pop-up in Ojai!

Found Vintage Photos | Week 25

Montmarte Paris 1952

I came across this photo of Montmartre Paris from 1952 and just loved so much about it. Aside from the obvious (it’s in France, there are painted shutters on the buildings, an old man is painting…) I quite love the outfits the young women are wearing, their plaid a-line skirts and little sweater tops.

Wouldn’t it be lovely to just traipse around this beautiful city with the streets dappled in sun. Ahh, to summer in France or anywhere pastoral really! That’s what this week’s vintage photos are all about. Images of an idyllic summer. Lots of plush green earth, scenes of farmland, lakes glimmering with dusk approaching…

And so begins a new chapter…

Oh, hello there new space on the internet. My, you’re looking brand spanking clean. Kind of empty though. But that’s ok because in just a matter of time I am quite sure you will be filled with thoughts of silly things, serious things, pretty things… whatever happens to be mingling around my brain.

So why a new blog? What was wrong with the old one?

Nothing really. But as I enter my 31st year of life I am becoming more and more aware of who I am, who I’d like to be, and where I see myself…and to be quite honest, I no longer felt connected to that old dusty blog. It just started to become this hodge podge mess of fashion, weddings, celebrities, I don’t know…I just didn’t get any joy out of it or maintaining it. Blogging there seemed like work and this production “of pleasing”. I hope that makes sense.

I wanted to start fresh. To begin again with my heart and head in the right place. And I’ll be honest..since the start of Adored Vintage… I’ve changed as a person. My life has changed. I’m more and less the same person. Or is that more OR less. Where does that term come from anyway?!

SO…WHAT will this blog be about you ask? I’m not quite sure yet to be honest. I’d rather not have an agenda. All I do know is that I want to write about what inspires me and hopefully in turn will inspire you. And this can be a number of very different things from the affairs of Marie Antoinette, the origin of the croissant, all the different types of lace there are out there, people’s apartments I want to rob…

What do you say? Want to come along in this journey of newness? Of inspiration? And please, pretty please, if I write something that strikes you or you feel a connection to…do leave a comment below! Sometimes it is quite a very wonderful thing to know we see things the same way, through rose colored vintage glasses of course!
