What is minimalism? If we had to sum it up in a single sentence, we would say, Minimalism is a tool to rid yourself of life’s excess in favor of focusing on what’s important—so you can find happiness, fulfillment, and freedom. (from The Minimalists.com)
Ever since I read the Magical Art of Tidying Up book it has put a bug in my ear. Then my friend Tatiana mentioned the website called The Minimalists a few weeks ago. About a week ago I blogged about “seeking my inner minimalist” and also some “minimizing” I’ve done in my own home when we got snowed in for a few days. A few days ago I discovered The Minimalists podcast. Yesterday I met up with my friend Rebekah and we chatted about 2016 just being the year where we focus on home and family and less about the grind and production and work.
The Universe is telling me something and I’m like “Huh? What? Come again?”
A difficult thing to do for a woman who is in many ways a workaholic/perfectionist/can’t sit idle for more than 2 minutes. (We’re talking about me here and probably you too *wink*.)
All right, so how does a vintage seller/collector/*hoarder become a minimalist? Oh jeez, I DON’T KNOW! That’s why I’m writing about this journey about my path to minimalism because truth be told, this is really DAMN challenging!
But I CAN do it! I WILL do it!
Tatiana and I are playing the 30 Day Minimalism Game. Except we’re not going to be THAT ambitious because we don’t want to set ourselves up for failure. We are instead playing for 15 days.
Here’s how it works! Day 1 you get rid of 1 thing. Day 2 you get rid of 2 things and so on… so on the 15th day we get rid of 15 things.
Hang tight. Going to do the math on that real quick.
*insert elevator music*
15 Days is ONLY 120 things. OMG that seems so easy. As a vintage seller/collector/hoarder (oh I just hate calling myself that…) I can easily get rid of 120 things in 15 days! Well, I think I can anyway. You’ll just have to stay tuned to find out!
I will be posting what things I am getting rid of DAILY (maybe here, maybe on instagram, I don’t know, haven’t decided which social media outlet will be best for this)
Oh just for fun, I decided to do the math if we played the game for 30 days.
Yeah, I don’t know about that… but 120 sounds good! Realistic! Ok, here we go!
