Emerge At Twilight | A Shop Update

Although we’re past the fall equinox and leaves are scattered on the sidewalk outside, it seems that Portland summer is still lingering around. Don’t get me wrong, I’m loving the morning and afternoon light shining through my windows and crisp sunny days. However, I am truly missing grey skies and the moody, cloudy Pacific Northwest weather I initially fell in love with. In the meantime, as we wait, here are some new things in the shop! Shady and grey tones to prep us for when Portland’s autumn decides to come into full swing.

New Arrivals | Vintage Swimwear

As the summer days get longer and hotter, all we want to do is frolic on the beach. Whether we are surfing or just soaking up the sun, we love doing it with our friends. There is nothing better than the sound of the waves crashing and sand between our toes.

And, of course, it is best to do it in style. The bright colors of our new vintage swimsuits really invoke this sense of summer fun.

Here are two other styles:

Shall We Dance | A Shop Update

Vintage Clothing Shop | Adored Vintage

The recent shop update is quite festive without being too literal. Lots of embroidery and beaded details and lovely holiday appropriate fabrics of satins and velvets. I adore this vintage 1940s coat, the color is really gorgeous and I don’t think my photos do it justice. It’s like a golden mustard color with a hint of olive.

Adored Vintage Shop Update

I am thoroughly enjoying the change of seasons. The other day I was so excited to go rake leaves! Am I aware the novelty of THAT will wear off…yes, of course! But how fun is it to be excited about doing something so trivial!

To say the adjustment to living in Oregon has been good is the smallest of it. I drive around the city thinking to myself “I can’t believe I GET to live here!” I can honestly say I never felt like that about any other place I’ve lived in. Contrary to my Instagram account, it’s not a perfect city. I have some annoying neighbors that like to yell at each other at 2 in the morning and there’s literally a throng of children who run around shrieking outside across the street. I know, I know… they’re just BEING KIDS but pipe it down you young whipper snappers!

Anyway… last week/this week’s shop update is a little bit of summer, a little bit of fall, and a wee bit of winter. Oh, by the way, the fur collared 1930s coat caused a lot of heads to boil over on Instagram! I couldn’t believe how much hate I was getting for posting this! It’s VINTAGE. Oh, also, I don’t know if you’re aware, but I didn’t KILL it myself. Also, it’s called recycling. Also, if you have NOTHING NICE to say then don’t say it.

Apparently posting this coat warranted a follower (who I am assuming no longer follows Adored Vintage) to tell me It’s sad/disappointing I posted this and therefore she will no longer follow me. Another person said it was revolting. A few others said they were disgusted I posted it. Someone else said I was disrespecting the environment.

I tried not to take any of this PERSONALLY, but come on… I was really quite hurt by some of the comments. I do take it personally because this is my job. And it’s not just my job. It’s my heart. I LOVE what I do and pour a lot of work, time, effort, and love into what I do. And when people write mean comments, I can’t help but take it personally. Adored Vintage is ME.

I’ll have to write a longer blog post about mean Instagram comments later on (because I get them sometimes…and sometimes people write something nasty then instantly delete it so I just get a glance! WHAT!? That’s just cowardly.) I understand some things get misread so I try to take most things with a grain of salt but hey, I’m a sensitive gal and when my feelings get hurt it’s hard not to get over it.

Oh man, this blog post is turning into a downer. QUICK!! Look at the pretty clothes!! Look at the pretty clothes!

A Shop Update | Ode to August

It has been over 3 weeks since I have moved to Portland and it really hasn’t sunk in yet. Perhaps it is because I don’t live right in the thick of things. When we would visit here we always went to the very touristy places off Division, 23rd, Burnside… and now that I am a resident of Portland… I’ve been spending more time at the farmer’s market, Home Depot, and TRYING to navigate WITHOUT my GPS. Without success.

The other day I went downtown and drove by the Portland, Oregon sign. You know the one, the one with the deer on it! The first time I saw it was during November and the city had put a red light on its nose. So, literally, up until…I saw it again, the Summer after, I just thought it was Rudolf.

Ha ha ha. I am easily gullible. And easily amused. Obviously.

I’m waiting for the weather to hurry up and cool down already! And everyone keeps telling me “OH it’s COMING!” But seriouslyyyy… I have not seen an Autumn…like a REAL Autumn in over a decade!!! The anticipation of Fall is making me dislike summer very much.

See, August, this shop update is dedicated to you! An ODE to you, so hurry on up and be over, and let’s get to the pretty changing of leaves already!

By the way, let me just slip on my VINTAGE-PRODUCT-PHOTOGRAPHER hat so I can whine about how annoying it is to redo and get used to a whole new way of shooting product photos when you move somewhere new.

Perhaps it was because last year I moved SO MUCH and had to do this process SO OFTEN, that this time around I was nearly in tears trying to get the lighting right.

The plus side of the new house is that it has lots of beautiful natural light. Unfortunately most of that natural beautiful light is not in the room I had originally dedicated to be the “photo taking” room.

So, in a Tim Gunn “make-it-work” moment, I shuffled off to Ikea to pick up some makeshift studio supplies then drove downtown to a camera supply store to get a couple more supplies.

The truth is, I know most of you wouldn’t even notice the things I get the most antsy about. I’m quite a hard critic on myself and hold myself up to impossible standards on a low budget and without formal training.

I’m a perfectionist to the point where I annoy myself. Well, actually, I’m a perfectionist about CERTAIN things. My desk is never ever tidy. And it will be a cold day in Hell when I can actually keep a manicure for at least 24 hours.

THIS shop update, if you DIDN’T NOTICE, and now I am going to POINT OUT, is shot in two different rooms at different times of the day because I was trying to see which lighting I liked better.

But after redoing several dresses, I finally threw my hands up in the air and possibly yanked some hairs out of my head (just kidding, I’m not CRAZY you guys!) and just posted the shop update with two different tones.

I hope you didn’t notice. But now you will because I TOLD YOU. Le siggghhhh.
